A Toronto realtor arrested along with a woman for animal cruelty after police responded to reports of a dog being dragged by a moving vehicle in North York has lost his job.
On July 14, officers were called to the Yonge St. and North York Blvd. area where two dogs were allegedly tethered to a single leash that was linked to the collar of each animal, police said.
The vehicle stopped for a moment and a woman was seen exiting the vehicle, removing one of the dogs still attached to the leash, then getting back into the car — leaving one dog outside as it tried to keep up with the moving vehicle, while the second dog inside the car was being pulled by the force of the leash.
Bystanders were able to intervene and stop the vehicle before authorities were called.
The dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic and treated for their injuries.
Mohammad Saberi Kamareh, 54, was charged with four counts of willfully cause unnecessary pain/suffering or injury to an animal, while Farimah Saghari Toyserkani, also 54, faces two counts of the same charges.
Internet sleuths were quick to learn that the driver, Kamareh, was a real estate agent working out of a Re/Max office in Thornhill.
“Not some ‘low-life’ stereotype. A professional. A man in a suit,” according to social media posts of Fur Warriors, a charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding forever homes for animals, particularly those affected by abuse.
“Because cruelty doesn’t wear a uniform,” the organization continued. “It hides in plain sight. It sells you homes. Smiles for the camera.”
Fur Warriors went on to say that they flooded Kamareh’s employer’s inbox with emails and complaints, and Re/Max Realtron was quick to respond.
“Moe Saberi-Kamareh is no longer affiliated with RE/MAX Realtron Realty Inc.,” read a statement on their Instagram account.
“At RE/MAX Realtron, we are firmly committed to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and ethical conduct,” the statement continued.
“We take all agent conduct matters seriously and continue to support a culture of accountability and respect.”
Fur Warriors encouraged others to “speak out” in horrific instances involving helpless animals.
“This is the power of the public. This is why we speak out. This is what accountability looks like,” the organization declared.
“Because any business that protects abusers will be held accountable too,” it continued. “Silence is complicity. If you shelter monsters, we will expose you.”
The group vowed to bring down Toyserkani as well.
