“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our officers,” Toronto Police spokesperson Stephanie Sayer said Friday.

“At this time, we are focused on supporting their family, colleagues, and loved ones,” she said. “Out of respect for their privacy, we will not be providing further details.”

A text sent out to service members, obtained by the Toronto Sun, says the officer was a “son, husband, and a father of two children.”

“Earlier today, Chief (Myron) Demkiw and TPA President (Clayton) Campbell met with the family and the officer’s close colleagues,” the text states. “The Service Board and Association are committed to doing everything we can to support his family and loved ones. Per the family’s wishes, the officer’s name is being withheld at this time.”
