There was no suspect information or immediate details from police on the circumstances that led to the shooting.

“As this is an ongoing and active investigation, I do not have any additional information at this time,” TPS media relations spokesperson Ashley Visser said on Thursday morning.

In late June 2024, Toronto Police announced a new task force to address increasing criminal activity between tow truck operators.

Cops said at the time there had been 26 shootings and firearm discharges related to tow trucks since the beginning of 2024, representing approximately 12% of all firearm incidents.

Police say conflicts involving a small segment of the towing industry in recent years have been about territorial disputes and rivalries with incidents are primarily happening in Toronto’s east end, with a few scattered throughout the rest of the city.
