Trio charged after vehicle reported stolen crashes in Clarington

Three men face charges after a vehicle that was reported stolen was involved in a crash in Clarington early Wednesday.

Durham Regional Police said officers responded just before 2 a.m. to a collision in the area of Brown St. and King St. E.

According to police, a black Honda SUV left the roadway and hit a light post.

Witnesses reported that there were three occupants in the vehicle who fled the area before cops arrived.

Police then learned the vehicle was reported stolen.

Officers searched the area and found three suspects who were taken into custody without incident, police said.

Anthony Robert Henri, 33, of Ajax, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving while under suspension, using an unauthorized plate, failing to remain, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Mark Anthony Wintels, 65, also of Ajax, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Justin Jeremy Coburn, 27, of Clarington, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Police said Henri and Wintels were held for a bail hearing. Coburn was released after agreeing to appear in court at a later date.
