The city and the TTC started work Monday — four weeks early — on renewing the aging streetcar tracks at the intersection of King St. E. and Church St.

That intersection is closed to traffic until the work is expected to be completed in mid-August.

The city is also replacing the 142-year-old watermains at the intersection, which is part of the council-approved 2025 Capital Works Program.

As previously reported, the TTC will implement a number of diversions, notably the 504C and 504D/304D King routes, around the intersection as a result of the construction.
