Peel Regional Police say gunfire erupted shortly after 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Settler’s Green Public School on Montevideo Rd. just west of Glen Erin Dr.
“Officers arrived on scene and determined two individuals had been shot,” Const. Tyler Bell said at the scene Thursday morning.
“The victims are associated to each other, but the exact nature of their relationship we are not confirming at this time,” he added.

A silvery grey four-door Mercedes sat in the middle of the school’s parking lot. At least 21 yellow police markers dotted the asphalt near the passenger side of the luxury vehicle, and a huge yellow tarp covered what looked to be blood and evidence a short distance away.
Bell explained there were other people and cars in the lot as “some form of gathering” was happening. An altercation then occurred leading to the shooting.

Aiman Ghori, who lives in a townhouse complex east of the school, said she arrived home around 10:30 p.m. and noticed some teens in the park north of the school.
“I saw a bunch kids walking into the park which isn’t completely unusual. And we see high-end cars there,” said Ghori.
“And then around 11 we heard two or three some pop, pop sounds.”
She said her husband looked out the side window of their home and he saw “something like a flash” and thought it may be fireworks, especially since it is just after Victoria Day.
When they woke up Thursday morning, she saw all the police tape and cruisers and “wished I called police on a non-emergency line.”
“We just thought it was harmless firecrackers and not gunfire.”

Ghori said she has always seen people in high-end cars “hanging out in the parking lot” and never thought it was unsafe “until now.”
She and her family have lived in the area for the past year and a half and she has never had an issue letting her little daughter out to play with neighbourhood kids in the park north of the school.
“I never feel unsafe letting my daughter out,” Ghori said. “But this does make me feel a little bit on edge.”
Another neighbour said his son goes to the school and said the shooting and murder hits “pretty close to home. Its pretty crazy.”
Jason, who didn’t give his last name, said school was in session on Thursday but he kept his son home.
A couple sitting in their backyard of their townhome that backs onto the school’s parking lot said they also heard “two or three shots.”
Bell said, as the investigation is ongoing, it is unclear whether the victims were shot inside the Mercedes or somewhere else in the parking lot.
Police said they are looking for suspects.
A section of the school’s playground and a field just north of the shooting were all cordoned off by police tape as officers recovered potential evidence strewn in the field.
