Canadian trucker arrested after U.S. border agents intercept cocaine headed for Windsor

A Canadian truck driver is facing federal prosecution in the United States after border agents at the Ambassador Bridge allegedly found 50 bricks of cocaine in the tractor trailer he was attempting to drive to Windsor.
Officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said the commercial vehicle was selected for examination before crossing the international bridge from Detroit.

Officers allege a physical inspection revealed three garbage bags of suspected narcotics behind stacks of lumber.
Officials confirmed the narcotics were 52.96 kilograms of cocaine.
“This is a testament to the quality of work performed by those who work tirelessly to combat transnational crime and stem the flow of dangerous drugs through our communities,” said director of field operations Marty C. Raybon, in a news release.
“Border security is a team effort and I applaud the outstanding work by our officers and our regional law enforcement partners.”
U.S. Homeland Security continues to investigate the case.
Since March 5, more than 1,300 pounds of cocaine has been seized by border field operations personnel at Michigan ports of entry.
