'Violent repeat offender' charged with forcible confinement, robbery: Peel cops

A man who police describe as a “violent repeat offender” has been charged after a Mississauga home was twice the target of a robbery.

Peel Regional Police say on Dec. 4, 2024, a male victim “was bound and restrained” at a residence and “a demand for money was made.” The intruder “obtained various bank cards and later forced the victim to withdraw a large sum of money from a financial institution before being released unharmed.”

Then on New Year’s Day at about 4 a.m., police allege the same man returned to the home — this time with a handgun — and “confronted a second victim, forcing his way in.” Miscellaneous items were stolen, police said without elaborating.

Officers executed a search warrant on Jan. 3 at a Mississauga residence where they seized a Sig Sauer p320 firearm, three prohibited magazines, ammunition hidden in a furnace, a pellet gun, and identification belonging to the victim.

Darko Jugova, 35, of Mississauga, was arrested and police allege he was “found to have a firearm.”

He is charged with forcible confinement, robbery, robbery with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited device, break and enter, and extortion.

Jugova was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

In a release on Tuesday with the headline “Violent repeat offender arrested for forcible confinement and armed robbery,” Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said, “Repeat violent offenders endanger our community and threaten lives. Our investigators will continue to work relentlessly to keep our community safe and are committed to ensuring that those responsible for these criminal acts are held accountable.”
