The man in disguise at the front door pretending to be a courier had a ready-to-fire crossbow hidden inside the box. He had his hand on the trigger under the cardboard and pulled it as soon as the unsuspecting woman opened the door to accept her package.
This was not a horror movie. This was on a residential street in Mississauga.
It’s real-life creepy — all caught on camera.
The woman didn’t have a fair chance that Nov 7, 2018 evening. The high-velocity arrow, meant to take down deer or moose, went right through her. It was moving so fast it embedded into the far wall of the Bayberry Drive home.

After the firing, the sneaky assailant scurried off into oblivion. This was meant to kill her. It was a miracle that it didn’t. Despite receiving major injuries, she survived.

Oops. The would-be killer, and whoever allegedly contracted him, didn’t see that coming. It then became their turn to wait for a knock on the door.
One of them has had it happen. Only these armed people were not pretending — they were Peel Regional Police detectives.
Investigators are starting to unwrap this mystery and have made an arrest in this bizarre, disturbing case. It may have taken almost 22 months but now it’s Peel police’s turn to drop off a package. They did just that last week.
Still working on the case, police are not commenting at this point. But it is in the public record that a man was scheduled to make a court appearance to be charged in connection with this evil crime. Police have planned a media briefing for Tuesday at 10 a.m. to update the investigation.

But the Toronto Sun has learned they have arrested the victim’s ex common-law partner in an alleged conspiracy to kill the woman with whom he allegedly had a bitter separation. While he is not accused of being the one in disguise as a courier at the door, police will go to court to claim he plotted it. The man is innocent until proven guilty. His name will be announced at the news conference.

It’s unknown if police also know the identity of the person who actually shot the crossbow, but with this arrest it is only a matter of time. A home surveillance video shows the man wearing a hat, wig, hairnet and gloves. His goal was to kill her. A centimetre to the left or right or up or down and he would have achieved it.
As Staff-Sgt. James Kettles told the media at an April 2019 news conference, this was a “gutless and cowardly” attack with a weapon designed to take down “big game.”

Instead, it left a 44-year-old woman with “life-altering” injuries that make her day-to-day life very difficult. That she lived from the catastrophic injuries was a testament to her making a quick 911 call for help and the highly skilled surgeons who saved her.
It was also innovative detective work to determine what allegedly was behind this strange murder attempt.

They are not done yet. The investigation is very active and there could be more people to bag.
The woman, a mother of two teenagers, has been briefed about the development and is considering making a public statement. No one should have to go through something like this.
But the lesson is, it may take awhile for police to sort out who and what is allegedly behind a heinous crime, but eventually they will box in their suspects.
