Another day, another deadly stabbing in Toronto. This latest incident happened on Sunday morning at Kingston and Galloway Rds., where a man was stabbed at 3:27 a.m. and things were so bad, he was rushed to hospital in life-theatening condition.
Police had not yet released any suspect information. As of Sunday morning, the suspect was on the loose while the victim fought for his life.
While this Year of the Knife focus has largely been on the terrible violence on the TTC, there are many other blade crimes occurring in all sections of the city.
Or potential ones.
One incident Friday afternoon at about 2:25 p.m. is an example. Police received a call about a man in the Bay subway station described as having a knife or scissors.

They rushed to the scene and at first did not find him. Witnesses said the man was yelling while storming around the area.
Police were able to locate the man and determine there had allegedly been issues prior to going onto the subway. They were able to arrest a 39-year-old, and, as Toronto Police Const. Shannon Eames noted, “it came to light that there were incidents involving this man prior to the subway incident.”
It turns out what he was allegedly carrying was a pair of scissors.
Abdigafar Hassan has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, causing a disturbance and possession of property obtained by crime.

No one was wounded. But it certainly could have been a much different scenario today. It’s not out of Toronto’s collective memory what happened to 16-year-old Gabriel Magalhaes, who was stabbed to death while sitting on a subway platform bench March 27.

There have been many other stabbings as well on buses and streetcars. As one TTC employee pointed out, this could have easily been another homicide.
It’s true.
Something is going to have to be done about people who are using hard drugs on the street and the dangerous behaviour that ensues because of it. It can’t stay like it is and have people as prey for someone with a sharp object to randomly attack them.
It’s happening too often in Toronto where knives and blades, seemingly, are this year’s weapon of choice.
