An elderly woman is fighting for her life after she was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon in Scarborough.
Toronto Police say the senior was walking across Sunrise Ave. on the west side of Victoria Park Ave. – south of Eglinton Ave. E. – when she was struck by a vehicle as it turned onto the secondary street around 1 p.m.
The black Mercedes Benz, driven by a 40-year-old man, was heading north on Victoria Park when it made a left turn to proceed west on Sunrise and struck the pedestrian, Const. Stephanie Miceli said in a statement Wednesday.
She said the pedestrian – a 99-year-old woman – was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening injuries.”
The Mercedes driver remained on scene.
There was no immediate word on what, if any, charges could be laid.
The investigation is “ongoing,” Miceli said.
“Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators,” she said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Traffic Services at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
