A 52-year-old woman is accused of deliberately setting fire to an Oshawa home – while several people were inside – and to a vehicle.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to “an armed person call” in the area of Park Rd. S. and Quebec St. – just south of Gibb St. – around 2 a.m. on July 4.
“A female sprayed flammable fluids on a vehicle and residence before igniting both and causing significant damage,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein alleged in a statement Wednesday.
He said firefighters attended the scene and successfully extinguished both fires.
The occupants of the home got safely outside and nobody was physically injured.
A suspect was located nearby and arrested without incident.
Seandelle Monkhouse, of Oshawa, is charged with arson causing damage to property, mischief over $5,000, and three counts of arson with disregard for human life.
“This was an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety,” Gluckstein said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2235, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
