Durham Regional Police have ruled the death of a woman found in a Pickering fire last week a homicide.
On June 11 around 2:20 p.m., emergency crews responded to a residential fire in the area of Primrose Ct. and Fairport Rd. A 69-year-old woman was located dead inside the home.
At the conclusion of a post-mortem, her death was ruled the region’s third homicide of the year and the Durham Homicide Unit took over the investigation.
On Tuesday, Sandra Coutinho, 34, of Pickering, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder. She was held for a bail hearing.
Police said an additional suspect has been identified but did not release details on that person.
The victim’s name and cause of death also were not released.
Investigators said in a news release Thursday they “believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.”
