Police said four kids and a woman were rushed to a trauma centre Thursday evening after an altercation at a gym led to a crash in Mississauga.
The woman and one of the children were in critical condition, according to police, while the three other kids were in stable condition. The kids ranged from nine to 12 years old, CP24 reported, with two of them related.
Police said the crash involved two vehicles at Ninth Line and Candlelight Dr., near Hwys. 403 and 407, and two people fled on foot after the collision. They were described as young men in black clothing.
The crash scene reportedly included a red Honda Civic sedan and a black Range Rover, CP24 reported, both of which were damaged.
The Range Rover was allegedly linked to an altercation before the crash at a Life Time gym on Winston Churchill Blvd. with unconfirmed reports that a gun was involved. Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told reporters police were called to the gym over reports of an attempted carjacking, which was later ruled out.
“We don’t believe it to be a carjacking at this point,” Bell said, via CP24. “It does seem to be some sort of altercation or confrontation between the people in that black Range Rover that you see behind me and somebody else in another vehicle.”
Bell-Morena asked residents to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. If they find anything in their backyard, such as a weapon, they are asked not to touch anything and contact police instead.
Police said Ninth Line was closed between Candlelight and Janice Dr.
