Toronto Police are investigating the death of a woman who was pulled from a car that plunged into Ashbridges Bay at a yacht club boat launch.
A man, described by police as the driver, was somehow pulled from the vehicle, but the woman was still inside.
Four officers from nearby 55 Division responded after the tragic incident Sunday at around 9:30 p.m.
“Officers entered the freezing water and began a rescue attempt of the (female) passenger,” said Const. Viktor Sarudi. “Marine officers arrived shortly after and also entered the water.”
“Sadly, the female passenger was pronounced deceased (Monday) morning,” said Sarudi.
The officers braved the bitter cold and frigid water as they tried to rescue the man and woman from the vehicle. The officers all were treated for hypothermia.

She was eventually pulled from the vehicle and all the parties were transported to a hospital.
Police provided few details about what happened, including the identities of the man and woman in the car.
On Monday morning, yellow police markers dotted the parking lot and followed tire tracks in the snow that seemed to go westward towards the boat launch and into the water.
The area remained desolate for most of the day, except for dog walkers and the odd jogger.
A rosy-faced woman, returning to her car with her dog, asked what had happened. She winced when told about what happened.
