Woman dead, man arrested after overnight fire in Brampton

One person is under arrest after a fire at a Brampton home early Saturday left a woman dead and a man injured.

Emergency services received a call around 3:30 a.m. for a house that was engulfed in flames on Devonshire Dr., near Balmoral Dr. and Bramalea Rd.

Brampton Fire said the blaze was put under control around 5 a.m.

Peel Regional Police say a woman was pulled out of the home but died at the scene. A man suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital.

Another man was arrested nearby, cops said.

The homicide unit and the Office of the Fire Marshal will investigate the incident.
