Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau seems to think that during this election campaign he can skate around his track record — both as prime minister these past four years and in his personal misdeeds.

Trudeau has been dodging the media when it comes to answering details of his years-long habit of blackface performance. There have been three confirmed incidents so far, spanning a period of 1994 to 2001, which covers a large part of Trudeau’s 20s.
He won’t confirm how many more blackface performances he gave nor really explain what was going through his head at the time. For a PM who speaks about the importance of diversity and also doesn’t shy away from denouncing others for lesser transgressions, this news and his failure to adequately address it is seriously troubling.
The blackface saga will haunt Trudeau for some time to come. Those who have shamelessly defended Trudeau for these antics, though, say it’s more important to focus on his record. We think you can do both simultaneously. Then again, Trudeau doesn’t even seem too interested in focusing on his record.

The Munk Debates’ foreign policy event was cancelled because the main draw — the incumbent prime minister — refuses to participate.
It should be noted Trudeau was more than happy to appear at the same event in 2015 to criticize Stephen Harper for his track record on foreign policy. And, here’s the thing, Harper was more than happy to show up and take the shots and defend his record.
On the personal front, Trudeau offered unsatisfactory remarks not just on blackface but on the Kokanee grope story, in which he’s said to have grabbed a woman in 2000. On the political front, it’s not just foreign policy but his failure to keep a number of campaign promises, including his inability to stick to “modest” deficits and balance the books by the end of this first term.
If we’re to have a serious election campaign that properly discusses the issues that matter to Canadians, these are subjects that cannot go ignored.
