Speaking to reporters during a Monday morning news conference on Parliament Hill, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May accused her NDP counterpart Jagmeet Singh of being more concerned with polls over the environment.
“The ‘No Discernible Principles Party’ — the NDP,” May said.
“It’s fine for Jagmeet Singh to say he doesn’t listen to Pierre Poilievre, but Pierre Poilievre’s words keep coming out of Jagmeet Singh’s mouth.”
Singh’s bombshell announcement earlier this month that the NDP would walk away from a two-year-old supply and confidence agreement with the minority Liberals resulted in a fundamental shift of power in Ottawa — leaving the Trudeau government precariously close to toppling if the opposition parties challenge a confidence motion.

Last week, Singh signalled his opposition to a consumer carbon tax, calling on the government to fight pollution without putting “a burden on the backs of working people.”
May’s words echoed those of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who in a news conference last week accused the NDP leader of “walking away from progressive values” in his tearing-up of the agreement.
May blamed the unique organizational structure of the provincial and federal NDP for Singh’s silence on many environmental issues, mainly out of fear of further alienating the Alberta branch of the party.
“I shouldn’t be as appalled as I am,” May said.
“It’s clear we’ve never seen Mr. Singh speak out against the Trans Mountain Pipeline, because it would’ve made the Alberta NDP angry.”
