Now, reclusive Quebec billionaire Robert Miller is in the spotlight, accused of paying off young girls for sexual favours. Detectives arrested the ailing octogenarian late Thursday at his Westmount mansion.
Miller now faces an eye-popping 21 charges, including sexual assault, obtaining sexual services for consideration and several counts of sexual exploitation of minors. According to cops, there are 10 alleged victims, with eight of them minors at the time of the incidents that occurred between 1994 and 2016.
One of the girls was allegedly under 14 at the time.
Detailed reporting by Radio-Canada revealed that Miller, 80, had allegedly constructed a vile apparatus to recruit young girls for sex, with flunkies handling the intros, arrangements and pay-offs.
The late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein used the same playbook with his former lover and queen bee of the pedo roost, Ghislaine Maxwell, and others orchestrating a sickening slew of sex crimes that spanned the planet.
For his part, Miller has long denied any wrongdoing and none of the charges have been proven in court.
On Thursday night he released a statement, saying that “the clear motivation behind this whole case, dating back as far as 30 years ago, is easy financial gain.”
But the notoriously publicity-shy tech mogul may never see the inside of a courtroom or jail cell. Doctors have said that Miller is halfway to the funeral home, extremely ill and suffering from late-stage Parkinson’s disease and other ailments.
Miller was a no-show on Thursday in court because of his health issues.
According to cops, after the 2023 Radio-Canada story on Miller aired, more alleged victims came forward and they reopened an investigation that could be traced to 2009.
The R-C report interviewed women who claimed they had been paid thousands in cash, showered with expensive clothes and other goodies in exchange for sex with Miller. And as in the Epstein investigation, there was an alleged bounty if they recruited new girls.
In Epstein’s notorious 2008 underage prostitution deal in Palm Beach County the financier was caged at night and sprung during the day to sexually molest more teenage girls.
The 2009 investigation into Miller and his acolytes on the sex offence claims died on the vine and no charges were laid. Part of the reason was that many of the young women were in the dark about Miller’s true identity.
He allegedly claimed to be Bob Adams, an American broadcasting executive frequently in Montreal on business.
Miller also faces civil suits, including an unauthorized class action suit launched on behalf of 50 women. Several say they were only 11 or 12 when they first allegedly had sex with Miller, who is contesting the proceedings.
In ‘The Godfather’, when Sal Tessio’s betrayal is revealed he asks Tom Hagen if he can get him “off the hook, for old times sake.”
As investigators zeroed in on Weinstein, Nygard and Epstein, this was their game plan: Get other powerful men to get them “off the hook” for “old time’s sake.”
But by the end, the allegations were so repulsive that even Don Corleone couldn’t save them. Miller may find the many doors that once opened for him now closed.
As I said, no amount of money will make this go away.
