Joe Rogan mocks Canada for re-electing Liberals, claims Pierre Poilievre turned down podcast offer
'There was a conscious decision to avoid American media,' the Sun's Brian Lilley says

Joe Rogan is stupefied by the Liberals’ return to power last month after the party had fallen to historic lows under former prime minister Justin Trudeau.
Hunting podcaster Cameron Hanes brought up the government’s handling of the trucker protest in the nation’s capital back in 2022. The “Freedom Convoy” descended on the city on Jan. 22 to protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Big rigs blocked off major streets and drew thousands of supporters, both in real life and virtually.
Rogan has repeatedly criticized Trudeau for his handling of the protests and at one point branded him “a creepy dictator.”
This week, the podcaster reflected briefly on the Liberal government’s “insane” response and then jabbed Canadians for re-electing the party for a fourth consecutive term.
“People who donated to them got their bank accounts frozen,” Rogan said. “And then that same party just won again. Good job, Canada!”
Rogan also claimed that he invited Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to come on his show in the leadup to the election.
“I offered to have that Pierre guy come on the podcast. He didn’t do it. Wouldn’t do it. Thought it was too problematic. Or whatever,” Rogan claimed, adding that his friend Jordan Peterson told him Poilievre’s “advisers were telling him not to do it.”
“Like, hey, dumbass,” Rogan added.
Hanes said Rogan doesn’t practise gotcha-style journalism and the podcaster insisted he could have asked Poilievre very straightforward questions.
“I would just ask him questions like, ‘What’s wrong with Canada,’” Rogan said, according to Fox News. “‘How did this happen?’ and ‘Why did it go this way? What can be done to reverse some of these things that have been put into place?’ Like, ‘How did you feel about this? What would you have done differently?’ Real simple stuff. I don’t know anything about Canada’s politics … It would have been fun.”
Last year, Rogan endorsed Poilievre as Canada’s next prime minister as he begged his Canadian listeners to turf Trudeau’s Liberals.
“Canada, get your s— together! Come back. Come back to what you used to be,” Rogan urged. “That Pierre Poilievre guy, however you say his name, he makes sense.”
In addition to Rogan, Ben Shapiro, Glenn Beck, the Full Send podcast and Fox News also reached out to Poilievre’s team.
The Sun’s Brian Lilley spoke to Poilievre’s team about his media strategy during the campaign and even raised the issue with Poilievre on the margins of an interview with the Conservative leader.
“There was a conscious decision to avoid American media. They felt they had enough to deal with in Canada, and some thought there would be a big backlash from Canadian media outlets if they spoke to any conservative media personalities in the United States,” Lilley said.
After Carney was named the Liberal’s new leader, Rogan slammed the party for choosing the two-time former central banker.
“They got a new guy, who’s just as bad,” Rogan said as he offered a brief assessment of Canada’s 24th prime minister. “It’s the same thing … 150 people voted, and now they have a new guy running the country.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has fuelled tensions between the countries after his promise to impose tariffs on Canadian imports into America and his constant calls for the country to become the 51st state.
During their first in-person meeting Tuesday at the White House, Carney told Trump that Canada would never be for sale.
Trump responded by saying: “Never say never.”
Prior to last fall’s U.S. election, Rogan, who boasts more than 14.5 million followers on Spotify and over 19.8 million followers on YouTube, invited both presidential candidates to appear on his podcast.
Trump took him up on his offer and their nearly three-hour chat was credited for tipping the results in his favour.
In their conversation, Trump floated the idea of eliminating federal income tax, life on Mars, distrust of pollsters and more.
Afterwards, Rogan told his legion of fans he was endorsing Trump.
“It just came over the wires that Joe Rogan just endorsed me, is that great. Thank you, Joe. That’s so nice. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t do that stuff,” Trump said.
