Mark Carney will be among scores of world leaders and dignitaries to attend Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass at the Vatican, set to happen on Sunday in St. Peter’s Square.
In a statement issued earlier this week, the prime minister’s office said Carney will meet with other world leaders attending the mass to discuss “trade, commerce and cultural ties.”
Sunday’s mass will be the newly-minted American-born pontiff’s first since being elected after the April 21 death of Pope Francis.
While U.S. President Donald Trump won’t be attending the mass, Vice-President J. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the American delegation.
Other world leaders and dignitaries expected to attend include Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh, Australian PM Anthony Albanese, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
