Police investigate suspected needle poisonings at ÎleSoniq festival

Montreal police are investigating six suspected cases of poisoning at the ÎleSoniq music festival Aug. 9 and 10.
In a statement Friday, police said the incidents were reported at Jean-Drapeau Park. The victims, including both men and women, reported feeling a sharp sting in the back while in the crowd, followed by dizziness.

However police say it is too early to confirm whether the cases are linked.
Police also said that festival organizers Evenko are co-operating with the investigation.
In a statement Friday, Evenko said: “The safety of our attendees is our highest priority, and we take these incidents very seriously. Our teams are working closely with the police, on-site medical staff, and a dedicated prevention group to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
“We understand how concerning these incidents are, and we are sincerely sorry.”
The Montreal police South Regional Investigation Section is now appealing for witnesses or other victims to come forward.
Tips can be shared by calling 911, visiting a local police station, or contacting Info-Crime Montréal (infocrimemontreal.ca or 514-393-1133) anonymously. Rewards of up to $3,000 are available for information leading to an arrest.
Authorities are also reminding anyone who believes they were unknowingly drugged to seek hospital care immediately so urine samples can be taken within 48 hours. This is part of a provincial initiative to better prosecute such offences.
