$55M illegal cannabis seizure by OPP leads to 16 people being charged

The OPP have made a major illegal cannabis bust in Haldimand County with the haul valued at $55 million and 16 people facing a total of 32 charges.

Cops say on July 16 a search warrant was executed at a rural location on Highway 3, which had a large greenhouse area that allegedly contained illegal cannabis plants in different stages of growth.

Officers seized more than 107,000 illegal cannabis plants and approximately 950 pounds of dried illegal cannabis buds.

Several items that were deemed to be offence-related property were also seized including grow lights, machinery and other cannabis processing equipment.

Sixteen individuals between the ages of 24 and 58 — 13 of whom had no fixed addresses— were each charged with cultivating cannabis without authorization and possession for the purpose of distribution.

The three with addresses were from North York, Brantford and Markham.

The investigation is ongoing.
