American charged after 35 kilos of illegal pot found in truck at border

An American rental truck driver who claimed he ended up in Canada after getting his directions mixed up was allegedly busted with 35 kilograms of marijuana while trying to return to the U.S. at a Buffalo border crossing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection say on Sunday, officers encountered Ronald Nunn, a 43-year-old U.S. States citizen who, after he made a wrong turn onto the Peace Bridge and into Canada, before immediately heading back to the U.S.

Nunn allegedly told a border guard his truck was empty, but an inspection turned up three cardboard boxes containing 60 vacuum-sealed packages of weed, according to authorities.

Customs officials said they seized 35 kilograms of pot with an estimated street value of about $310,000.

“Our dedicated CBP officers continue to perform their jobs at the highest levels,” said Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone in a statement.

“Their training and experience help to keep our communities safe from these illegal narcotics.”

Nunn, who faces felony charges for criminal possession of cannabis,  was turned over to the Buffalo Police Department.
