Fire crews battling two active wildfires in Kawartha Lakes
No evacuations have been ordered but the city is urging residents and visitors to avoid the fire area

Kawartha Lakes officials say two wildfires continue to blaze in Ontario’s cottage country as the provincial Ministry of Natural Resources reports no changes to the status of the active fires.
The city says fire crews are making some progress with the help of recent cloud cover, but hot weather conditions persist and there was minimal rain overnight.

Officials say the first fire started on the weekend in the Burnt River area and still covers about 27 hectares, or a little more than one-quarter of a square kilometre of forest.
The second fire began on Monday in the Kirkfield area and covers about one-third of a square kilometre of land.
Officials say city firefighters, the Trent Lakes Fire Service and additional resources from North Bay crews were deployed to assist and aerial water bombers also targeted the most active fire zones on Sunday.
No evacuations have been ordered but the city is urging residents and visitors to avoid the fire area.
Road closures include County Road 49 between County Road 121 and Bury’s Green Road, as well as Prospect Road from south of 1304 Prospect Road to north of 1375 Prospect Road.
A total fire ban remains in effect across Kawartha Lakes.
