HUNTER: Screw Sharif Rahman's killers to the wall and leave them hanging

Article content
There is a subset of Brits who don’t travel well.
You’ll see their bulging beer bellies and fluorescent faces at cheap-and-cheerful all-inclusive resorts. Often, they are blitzed by noon, and aggressive by 4 p.m.
They are to be avoided but sometimes, that can’t be helped.
Like a lot of homicides.
A wrong turn, a series of bad decisions or associating with the wrong people can send an innocent to the morgue.
But often, it’s simply fate dealing a cruel hand. Beloved Owen Sound restaurant owner Sharif Rahman picked that losing hand off the table on a warm day in August 2023.

Now, more than a year later, cops have announced that they have arrested three British citizens who share the same last name for the brutal beating death of Rahman.
Robert Evans, 24, has been charged with manslaughter, Robert Busby Evans, 47, has been charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence. Those two were arrested in July but their names were not released.
According to cops, Barry Evans, 54, was busted on Oct. 29 and charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence.

Currently, the trio are caged in the UK while extradition efforts are underway for the long flight back to Canada to face justice.
The murder of Rahman, 44, was appallingly stupid — as these things often are. A dine-and-dash over a $150 bill that turned tragic.
On Aug. 17, 2023, three men tried to skip out on the bill at The Curry House. When Rahman tried to stop the fleeing trio, he was attacked, suffering serious injuries on the street outside his business.
Rahman never regained consciousness and died a week later at a London hospital.
Cops released grainy images of the suspects and their vehicles. And then, nothing.
It was a horrific crime that devastated residents in Owen Sound where Rahman was well-known for not only whipping up a terrific curry but for his kindness and generosity. He was married and had a young daughter.
So what of the trio accused of this heinous, utterly avoidable crime? So far, nothing has been proven in court.
This investigation was complicated. The cops wanted this one badly and took a slow, sure methodical approach to bring about arrests.
The suspects were arrested in Scotland on an international warrant with the trio in Canada on visitor visas. They allegedly fled the country not long after the attack on Rahman.
According to BBC News, the accused are related and are reportedly battling extradition. It remains unclear why they were in Canada or how long they had been here.

In the wake of Rahman’s murder, a slew of benefits, memorials and recognition have flooded his way. This is what has been done a man, his family and the community.
His wife Shayela Nasrin, now runs The Curry House.
In a statement, she said: “Although it is a complicated case, I have faith in the rule of law. I have been waiting patiently since Aug. 17, 2023, and I believe justice will be served for my husband.”
The way cops and witnesses tell it, a trio of belligerent Brits thought it would be a giggle to skip out on paying their bill at a small-town restaurant.
And when Rahman tried to stop them? They violently lashed out.
If found guilty, it is my hope his killers are screwed to the wall. That doesn’t happen much anymore but still … it would be nice.
