No surprises as Ontario’s most popular baby names revealed

Ontario’s most popular baby names for 2023 were announced by the province and for the 15th consecutive year, the number-one choice for girls was Olivia.

Charlotte was second most popular.

Meanwhile, for the fifth year in a row, Noah reigned supreme and the other name it has previously taken turns at the top with, Liam, was a close second.

We can’t help but wonder how many heads turn around when a parent at a playground or teacher in a classroom says one of those names.

Each year, the province releases its list of most popular baby names and newcomers to 2023’s list were Mila for the girls and Henry on the boy’s side.

As for girls’ names, variations of the same name — Sophia and Sofia — took the fifth and seventh spots, respectively.

Ontario’s Top 10 girls’ names were: Olivia, Charlotte, Amelia, Emma, Sophia, Mia, Sofia, Ava, Mila and Isla.

The boys’ Top 10 were: Noah, Liam, Theodore, Oliver, Jack, Lucas, Benjamin, William, Leo and Henry.

Name choices for Toronto parents were a little different.

Mia and Olivia tied for the top spot for girls’ monikers, while Liam was first choice for boys.

Other favourites for girls include Emily, Maya, Isabella, Hannah, Chloe, Aria, Victoria, Sarah, Zoe, Luna, Ellie and Abigail.

As for the boys, Torontonians opted for classics and some diversity including Ethan, Muhammad, Lucas, David, Adam, Jacob, Nathan, Danial and Matteo.
