OH BABY! Ontario woman's newborn breaks hospital's birth weight record

An Ontario woman broke a hospital’s record for birthing the largest baby.

Britteney and Chance Ayres, of Cambridge, welcomed their fifth child, Sonny, into the world on Oct. 23 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was delivered via Caesarean section and weighed 14 pounds, eight ounces (6.6 kg).

He is the biggest baby born at the hospital, according to available records dating back to 2010, local reports say.

In Ontario, the typical birth weight of a baby is seven pounds, eight ounces (3.4 kg).

“Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine he would be that big,” father Chance told Good Morning America this week.

Sonny joins his brothers Chance, 6, Everett, 5, Lucky, 3, and sister Marigold, 1.

“The doctor, he joked around, he said, ‘Well, we just make big babies’,” Britteney said.

This latest birth is no surprise to Britteney. Her last two babies, Marigold and Lucky, entered the world more than 13 pounds (5.9kg) each.

“I’m just really happy to be home and have a good support system,” Britteney said. “It’s a blessing.”
