Liberal Interim Leader John Fraser said Ford should answer questions at the inquiry and apologize for the “lawlessness” that Ottawa citizens endured for three weeks during the truck convoy protest.
“As much as the member wants to play politics and pretend that it’s a provincial situation, as much as the member wants me to direct the police, he knows I don’t direct the police,” Ford said Thursday. “I don’t direct municipal police. I don’t direct provincial police, and I do not direct the RCMP.”
Despite considerable criticism of how the blockades were handled, the Premier said in his opinion the police responded well.

Fraser said Ford may win in court next week in his attempt to block the summons but he’s losing in the court of public opinion.
Former premiers Mike Harris, Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne testified when called before an inquiry or committee, he said.
“What makes this Premier any different?” Fraser said. “They did this because it was the right thing to do. They didn’t shirk their responsibility. They knew that that came with the office.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act in response to the ongoing protests.
Ford unveiled a number of enforcement “tools” on Feb. 11 to help clear the two-week “illegal occupation” of Ottawa and the blocking of the Windsor border crossing.
“The government does not direct our police forces but we do set the laws,” Ford said in February. “Today, I’m using my authority as Premier of Ontario to declare a state of emergency in our province.”
