TURKEY POINT, Ont. — Ontario’s police watchdog says it’s investigating after a fatal police-involved shooting in a town on Lake Erie.
The Special Investigations Unit says Ontario Provincial Police officers were on the water near the Turkey Point Marina when they spotted a personal watercraft.
The SIU say officers attempted to get the operator of the watercraft to stop, but the man headed into the marina, exited the watercraft and ran to some bushes nearby.
The watchdog says officers set up a perimeter and there was an “interaction” between police and the man.
Investigators say one officer discharged an anti-riot Enfield weapon and another officer shot his firearm.
They say both weapons appeared to have struck the 22-year-old man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
