A shelter-in-place order has been lifted by the OPP for a stretch of Hwy. 11 after the road was closed to traffic following a home invasion Tuesday morning near Huntsville.

In a public safety advisory issued on social media shortly after 6:30 a.m., Huntsville OPP said they closed Hwy. 11 in both directions between Severn River and Coopers Falls Rds. and between Canning and Graham Rds.

The highway has since reopened to traffic and six people are in custody, the OPP said. They said one suspect remains at large along with a silver Honda CRV with an Ontario license plate of CZFE 895.

“A heavy police presence will continue to be observed as the investigation continues,” cops said.

The OPP said they responded to a home invasion call earlier in the day at about 5 a.m. in Hillsdale East, which is east of Huntsville.

As the situation developed, police asked the public to shelter in place and keep their car doors locked if caught in traffic on that stretch of highway north of Orillia.

Earlier, OPP officers removed vehicles from the closure area in Severn township, beginning with the northbound lanes.

The major artery into cottage country had been closed in both directions throughout the morning.

Anyone who noticed something suspicious or has any information about the investigation is asked to contact police.
