SUDBURY — A self-identified incel who went on a rampage in a Sudbury parking lot wanted to kill a mom and her baby girl.
Alex Stavropoulos, 26, had been unrepentant in the June 3, 2019 attack but on Monday he changed his tune.

Right before an all-day sentencing hearing concluded, Stavropoulos formally apologized to his victims, whom he tried to kill using a bladed weapon.
The woman’s artery was severed but she miraculously survived. Her child was also injured.
Stavropolous told cops at the time: “I was angry at white women. I like white women, but they won’t f*** me. So, I wanted to see what it felt like (to kill a female child) … I had my mindset. I was going to kill a child and was waiting for the right opportunity.”
He pleaded guilty in January to two counts of attempted murder and breach of probation.
“I would like to apologize to Miss (the mother) and her family, and everybody who has been so offended by what I did,” Stavropoulos said via Zoom link from the Sudbury Jail, the Sudbury Star reports. “I regret what I did. I wish I could go back and change it …
“It was the stupidest thing I have ever done, maybe the stupidest thing I have ever heard about. I’m completely embarrassed and feel terrible guilt. I know it affected her life, her family’s life, in many ways.
“Nothing I can say can ever change what I did … I’m terribly sorry.”
The Crown wants Stavropoulos to get a life sentence with no parole eligibility for 10 years, minus pre-custody credit time. And they fear he will reoffend.
One psychiatric expert predicted that the troubled young man is a high risk to reoffend — violently. Dr. Jonathan Gray said Stavropoulos has a 41% risk of re-offending within five years of release from prison, and a 71% risk of re-offending within 15 years of release.
