Two charged, woman sought after victim set on fire in St. Catharines: Cops

Two people have been charged and a third is sought after a victim was set on fire in her bed in St. Catharines.

Niagara Regional Police say they were called for an assist ambulance call for service to an apartment in the Vine and Scott Sts. area on Aug. 16 around 11 p.m.

Police say the “initial investigation determined that a female victim suffered serious burn injuries to her upper body and face.”

She was taken to hospital in critical condition and detectives with the 1 District Criminal Investigation Branch took over the investigation.

In a news release, police said “detectives determined that the victim was deliberately targeted by three suspects known to her. The suspects entered her apartment and used an accelerant to light her on fire while she slept.”

On Monday, police arrested a woman and a man. Chassidy Archer, 25, of St. Catharines, is charged with attempted murder, and break enter and commit an indictable offence.

Moises Medeiros, 30, of St. Catharines, is charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order, attempted murder, break enter and commit an indictable offence, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Both suspects attended a bail hearing via video link on Tuesday and were remanded into custody.

Cops are asking for help locating the third suspect, Rebecca Daigneault. The 37-year-old St. Catharines woman is wanted for fail to comply with Probation Order, attempted murder, and break enter and commit an indictable offence.
