Driver reports himself to 911 in alleged drunk driving, wrong-way incident

An alleged drunk driver unintentionally reported himself to cops after he mistakenly thought another driver was going the wrong way on a Nebraska highway, according to police.

The Lancaster Sheriff’s Office released footage of one officer responding to a call about a wrong-way driver on Rte. 77 in Lincoln, Neb., from earlier this year.

The dash-cam footage shows the cop driving along the highway as the 911 call plays.

The caller explains he’s driving northbound and “there is someone driving on the wrong side of the road.”

He is unable to describe the vehicle, telling the dispatcher, “He had his brights on, man. He almost ran me off the road.”

He added: “That was gnarly. That was, like, a lot.”

The video switches over to the deputy’s body-cam footage, as he approaches a vehicle which was pulled over on the grassy shoulder.

“Do you know why I stopped you?” the deputy is heard asking.

“Yeah, because I was on the wrong side of the road,” the man responded. “I must’ve missed an exit.”

The officer then asked the man if he called 911.

“Yep, because I thought someone was on the wrong side of the f***ing road, bro,” he replied.

“But it turned out it was you?” the deputy remarked, to which the driver admitted, “Yep, like a dumb f***.”

The 911 caller was arrested after his blood-alcohol level measured at more than twice the legal limit.

No one was injured during the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Thankfully a Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy was able to arrest this driver before anyone was seriously hurt,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.
