It was an awkward exchange between Kamala Harris and members of the media when the U.S. Vice President was asked about the war in Gaza.
Harris was leaving a restaurant toting her takeout when reporters questioned her about Hamas saying it had accepted the Egyptian-Qatari-mediated ceasefire deal.
People on social media called Harris everything from “an absolute disgrace” to “clueless.”
Another added: “She whines that no one takes her seriously,” while another account commented, “Obviously focused on the concerns of the nation.”
One person wrote, “I hope that specific order of grits is grainy and undercooked, and I hope that shrimp chews like a bike tire. I wish that small business all the best, and I bet their food slaps otherwise.”
A second person joked, “That’s how Trump should answer every press question from now on.”
More than one million Palestinians have been sheltering in Rafah, and the closure of its border crossing is a blow to efforts to maintain the flow of food, medicine and other supplies that are keeping Gaza’s population alive at a time when officials say the northern part of the enclave is already experiencing “full-blown famine.”
