Snake on a plane forces emergency landing in Malaysia

A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Malaysia after a snake was spotted in a light fixture of an overhead compartment.

The AirAsia domestic flight was travelling from Kuala Lampur to Tawau on Thursday when passengers made the discovery.

Video shared on TikTok shows the snake slowly slithering against the light.

“Seen a snake on a plane on a flight from KL to Tawau,” reads the translated caption. “The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the Kuching Airport.”

As soon as the captain was made aware of the incident, he decided to land in Kuching, between both cities, as a precautionary measure so the aircraft could be fumigated, reported Channel News Asia.

“This is a very rare incident which can occur on any aircraft from time to time,” AirAsia’s chief safety officer Capt. Liong Tien Ling told CNA Kuching.

“The captain took the appropriate action,” Liong said, adding that the safety and wellbeing of their passengers and crew are always the top priority.

“At no time was the safety of guests or crew at any risk,” he said.
