A video captured the disturbing final moments of Maria do Como, who could be seen sitting on a bench as the amusement ride was manually spun by a man. As the Ferris wheel began to descend, do Carmo was thrown straight down, hitting her chest on one of the ride’s metal bars.
The woman went into cardiac arrest and received immediate help from a nursing technician, the Daily Mail reported. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and used a defibrillator and performed CPR on the woman.
Do Carmo was pronounced dead by paramedics. Authorities shut down the amusement ride.

In an interview with Brazilian news outlet G1, restaurant owner Iury Vieiera said the Ferris wheel bench had a safety lock and another device that would prevent falls for children.
A sign near the ride said the Ferris wheel was recommended for riders aged five to 10.
The restaurant did not have an operating licence for the Ferris wheel, said Vieira. A licence and permit is normally issued by the fire department.
The restaurant’s owners and technical manager were liable for ensuring the amusement ride was inspected by the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Minas Gerais.
Vieira told G1 he didn’t see do Carmo’s fatal fall as at the time he was unloading merchandise at the restaurant and his father was operating the cash register.
