And the lefty comedian thinks it’s a huge problem if the U.S. president says he would be OK with losing to former President Donald Trump in November’s election rematch.
“I’ll feel as long as I gave it my all, and I did the goodest job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about,” Biden told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired on Friday.
“That’s not what this is about,” Stewart said in reply to Biden’s remarks on Monday night’s episode. “There are no participation trophies in endgame democracy.”

As of now, Biden is resisting calls to throw in the towel and end his quest for a second term.
Stewart began the episode with clips of Democratic apologists who wanted critics of Biden to stop whining, complaining, pearl-clutching, hand-wringing and bed-wetting over the 81-year-old president’s recent debate performance where Biden struggled mightily to complete his thoughts during questioning from CNN moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.
“I thought I would take a moment to explain where the concern about Biden’s performance might be coming from, why these concerns may be seen as a more foundational issue,” Stewart said.
“You see, even before the debate, there had been some troubling moments of disconnect from the president.”

Stewart played one clip that showed Biden, in September 2022, asking if Indiana Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski — who died the previous month — was in attendance during a White House event.
A second soundbite showed Biden confusing Emmanuel Macron, France’s current president, for former French leader Francois Mitterrand, who died in 1996.
He also reeled off teleprompter gaffes where Biden read instructions added by staffers that were meant to be cues for the president.
“Now to my mind, the debate was a shocking display of cognitive difficulty, recognizable to unfortunately anybody whose dealt with aging parents. And it’s a hard watch,” Stewart said.
While Stewart said he had no opinion if Biden should stay or step aside, the comedian said the president’s handlers and supporters should know better when new information about him leads to concerns from American voters.

“Authoritarianism and Donald Trump aren’t the only threats our democracy faces,” Stewart said. “An arthritic status quo, unable or unwilling to respond in any way to the concerns of voters who just received new and urgent information about their candidate, also erodes confidence and faith in the system of government.
“‘Get on board or shut the f— up’ is not a particularly compelling pro-democracy bumper sticker.”
