A 78-year-old woman was forced out of a New York taxi by its driver, who allegedly tried to steal her phone.
The incident was caught on video and posted on Twitter and shows the driver yanking the woman out of the backseat and closing the door as she lay on the street, trying to defend herself with her cane.
DISTURBING! This for hire @nyctaxi driver viciously robbed an elderly woman earlier on East 35th Street and Flatlands Avenue and while fleeing, hit and injured a pedestrian filming it. If you recognize him, please call 911 and #Shomrim 718-338-9797. @NYPD63Pct#LetsCatchHimpic.twitter.com/F5V1yTARD9

The two argued before he dragged her out of his vehicle by the leg.
Police said a witness tried to intervene and noticed the driver had the victim’s cellphone in his hand and was able to get the phone back.
That’s when the driver turned and fled in his vehicle, striking the good Samaritan who was trying to block him from fleeing, the video shows.
Both the passenger and bystander were taken to the hospital in stable condition, the outlet reported.
The cab driver is still on the loose but Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol, a volunteer organization dedicated to aiding the NYPD in their investigations of crime in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, shared a photo of the attacker’s face and licence plate.
