An Alberta grandmother broke her second fitness-related world record of the year when she completed 1,575 push ups in an hour.

DonnaJean Wilde, of Beazer, Alta., recently made her way into the Guinness World Records for a second time, taking the award for most pushups in one hour by a female.

She broke her first record in March for the longest time — 30 minutes, 11 seconds — in an abdominal plank position for a female.

Wilde trained intensely for her first record title, completing 500 pushups a day for her planking preparation.

By the time her second world record attempt came around, she was not only mentally prepared but her “abs and arms of steel” helped push Wilde past the previous push up record — and still had time to spare.

“I had to fight back the happy tears and emotions and keep going,” Wilde said.

What made it all sweeter was that Wilde was cheered on by 11 of her 12 grandchildren, even encouraging her with a sign that read, “My grandma is officially amazing!”

Wilde started strong, knocking out 620 pushups in the first 20 minutes.

She slowed down and alternated between 20 and five pushups per rep for the following 15 minutes before averaging 10 pushups per rep for the remainder of time.

In order for a pushup to count, there was a specific standard required where each move required “a 90-degree elbow flexion at the bottom of the pushup, with full extension of the arm when pushing up,” according to Guinness World Records.

Wilde said she even felt her shoulder dislocate but popped it back in near the end of the competition to achieve her goal.

“I believe that if we stay active and have health and wellness goals we can age gracefully and powerfully,” she said.
