The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Sept. 23 about a student at Rocky Creek Elementary School student picking out a package of edibles from a box full of candy used by teacher Victoria Weiss to reward students, Sheriff Jay Koon alleged in a news release.
Deputies launched an investigation and searched Weiss’ house the next day where investigators allegedly found more packs of edibles similar to those the student picked from the box in her classroom.

Weiss turned herself in Friday and was charged with possession of a Schedule 1 drug.
Koon urged adults to be aware of the similarities between regular candy and cannabis-based food products.
“They come in many forms, but the items in this case were candy,” he said in a statement. “They’re often packaged in wrappers and bags with logos and colours that look similar to traditional candy brands.”
“While they are available in other states and online, they are illegal in South Carolina,” Koon added.
Weiss is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
