Emily Nutley, a 43-year-old married mother of three, was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison after she pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery in April, local media reported.
Nutley was facing a maximum penalty of five years for each offence.
Authorities said Nutley was working as a teacher and instructor at St. Xavier High School in suburban Springfield Township during the 2023 fall semester. Her role was to supervise a program that assisted students struggling with academics.
The victim, a 17-year-old boy at the time, had been assigned to the program as part of the school’s “multi-tiered system of support.”
“It was during this time that Nutley began to have additional contact with the victim outside of school hours,” the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in a statement last October. “This contact, via text message, included nude photographs of Nutley and sexually explicit messages.”

The relationship became physical in mid-November 2023, authorities said, where she allegedly performed oral sex on the victim at least one time at the school and an additional time off campus.
She also allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim in her officer after school hours.
“When the victim attempted to stop the encounters, Nutley continued to contact the victim via text messages,” prosecutors alleged at the time.
School administrators learned of the teacher’s alleged conduct following an internal investigation. Police were soon notified and a criminal probe was launched, leading to her being charged with six counts of sexual battery.

“This is absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible conduct from an adult towards a minor child,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers said at the time of the charges. “This child was in need of help and guidance but instead found an adult looking to act out her perverted sexual desires.”
Nutley spoke at her sentencing hearing, pointing out the significant work she has done to rehabilitate herself after losing her career and marriage, and added there’s “no excuse” for what she did.
“I crossed a line that should never have been crossed,” she said, according to NBC affiliate WLWT. “I think every day about the impact of my actions. I’ve lost my husband, my home, my friends. I’ve caused harm and embarrassment to my children.”
