Meghan McCain 'feeling like a caged animal' on 'The View'

Just ask Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Arizona senator John McCain.

The conservative voice on the daytime talk show ‘The View’ is rumoured to be leaving the show for its upcoming 23rd season set to begin this September because she’s been “feeling like a caged animal,” emotionally drained, angry, and isolated, The Daily Beast reports.

McCain has been on the show for two seasons and often gets into heated debates with liberal-Democratic panelists Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin over her conservative views. Ana Navarro is a recurring conservative panelist but is viscerally anti-Trump.

Tabloid publications like the London-based Daily Mail often pick up on these spats and have depicted McCain as “a petulant child,” “manic,” and prone to “crying fits.”

McCain also receives a great deal of negative blowback on social media and from fellow colleagues because of her conservative views.

In one instance, Hostin followed the Twitter account of a cartoonist after the user posted a caricature of McCain.

A makeup artist at The View also ‘liked’ a Twitter post by liberal CNN commentator Angela Rye that featured an anti-Meghan video montage.

A friend of McCain told The Daily Beast: “It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week.”

Hilary Estey McLoughlin, the show’s senior executive producer, said “we don’t want people to attack Meghan,” while acknowledging “these kinds of stories don’t seem to go away.”

“Meghan is bolder and more fearless in what she’s willing to say and how she challenges people,” McLoughlin added.

The View’s last season saw a spike in ratings and a New York Times Magazine cover story dubbed it “the most important political TV show in America.”
