In an interview with Paris Match published days before the U.S. presidential election, the former First Lady recounted receiving the call after now President-elect Trump was injured by a bullet that grazed his right ear and came within inches of ending his life.
“After receiving the horrible news of the tragedy in Pennsylvania, Jill Biden took the initiative to contact me directly,” she told the weekly news magazine, according to a translation of the interview.
“I don’t know, however, if her concern was real, because a few days earlier she had called my husband ‘mean’ and a ‘liar.'”

“While I am relieved that Donald is safe, the comfort provided by my family and friends is precious,” she continued. “It is clear that the forces behind this evil behaviour will continue to work. In other words and to put it simply, they want Donald gone. They won’t stop.”
She questioned whether respect has become obsolete in today’s political climate and if both the Republican and Democratic parties can prioritize decency and coexist.
“We are entitled to doubt it, because the Democratic political engine consists of raining down harsh words, peddling vile nicknames and describing the 45th President of the United States as a ‘threat to democracy,'” she said.
“People today have become so insensitive that they joke about killing a former American president. This type of speech has created a toxic political environment, there is no denying it. This relentless smear has widened the political divide in America and now compromises individuals who dare to stand up for their beliefs.”

On Wednesday, Melania Trump skipped the traditional meeting with the First Lady while her husband sat down with President Joe Biden to go over the transition process before he returns to office for a second four-year term.
While she has not made many appearances with her husband on the campaign trail, she did attend the Madison Square Garden rally in New York City just days before the Nov. 5 election.
She also has made several media appearances to promote her new book, which details her views on abortion rights, her first date with Trump and the first assassination attempt on her husband’s life.
