The 32-year-old influencer, who was crowned queen of the Motul Carnival last year, was reportedly left alone at the pool as the rest of her family retired to the hotel for the night.

When family members noticed that she didn’t return to the hotel, they searched the area before finding her at the bottom of the pool. She was pulled out and had no vital signs.

According to Diario de Yucatan, authorities determined the cause of death as drowning.

Barrera Agaton was a businesswoman and founder of the Golden Gyms while also being an active member of the Yucatan State Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (AFFEY).

“She was a state champion, a national champion, a woman who brought the name of Yucatan to the international stage,” AFFEY President Evangelina Cime Mezquita wrote on Facebook.

“She was an organizer, sponsor, businesswoman, friend, and, above all, a very humane woman. Those of us who had the good fortune to know her loved her very much. Her memory lives on not only in the podiums she conquered, but also in the hearts of those who shared with her the dream of a stronger, more united, and brighter Yucatan.”

Barrera Agaton began her bodybuilding career more than a decade ago and won the state championship in the bikini category in 2016 and 2017. She also represented Mexico at the 2018 Mr. Olympia Amateur in Spain.

While financially supporting young athletes, Barrera Agaton also gave back to the community and supported those who were less fortunate, which included spearheading Christmas toy drives in recent years, the report said.
