Tara Kehidi and her friend, Teresa Araujo, were on Flight 387 headed to New Orleans on Oct. 4 to celebrate Kehidi’s birthday.

Kehidi told KABC that they had sweaters on while boarding the flight but took them off when they realized the plane’s air conditioning was off.

Now in crop tops, she claimed a male flight attendant approached them and told both women to “put something on.”

Araujo, who goes by the name Teresa Around the World on social media, took to her accounts to detail their “terrible experience” and the “appalling service” they received on the flight from LAX.

“We were harassed by a male flight attendant who told us to ‘cover up’ because we were wearing crop tops,” Araujo wrote.

The two friends also offered to put their sweaters back on multiple times so as not to get kicked off the flight, but “he continued to treat us poorly,” she wrote, before they were escorted off the plane.

Footage from the flight — captured by Araujo and other passengers — shows one of the women wearing a white crop top and distressed jeans, with a striped cardigan on her lap as flight crew approached them.

The second video in Araujo’s first Instagram post was of a woman with a child that said she was also being removed from the plane for wearing a crop top.

“They’re going to remove us from the plane? Me and my baby?” the woman, identified by KABC as Carla Hager, asked.

Hager was sitting in front of Araujo and Kehidi, but did not know them.

“I said, ‘Well, if your body is inappropriate, then so is mine because I also have a crop top under my sweater,’” Hager told the outlet.

“And I took my sweater off, and I was like, ‘So if they’re kicking you off the flight, then they’re also going to have to kick me and my toddler off of the flight.’”

Spirit ejected all three women and the toddler with no refund.

Araujo shared posts from other passengers who supported the crop top-wearing women, with one person writing, “This dude is kicking off a girl for wearing a crop top… f*** Spirit Airlines.”

Another defender — who said she complained to authorities as soon as she disembarked — claimed the flight attendant was “smiling so hard,” before getting on the speaker system to say, “Welcome to you that made it to New Orleans. Next time, mind your business, and you will get to your destination sooner.”

The airline said in a statement that their rules “includes certain clothing standards for all guests travelling with us,” adding that they are “investigating the matter” and have spoken with the passengers.

However, according to a post on Araujo’s TikTok on Tuesday, she claimed that Spirit has yet to get in touch with her or Kehidi.

Spirit Airlines did not get back to The Toronto Sun in time of publication.
