Royals don’t typically engage in political matters, so it should come as no surprise that Meghan Markle’s letter to U.S. politicians is being slammed.

Meghan sent the 1,000-plus-words missive to politicians Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, campaigning for paid parental leave.
Critics have slammed her for using her royal title in the letter, while others are left wondering if politics could be the next chapter for Meghan, though she claims it’s coming from an “engaged citizen and a parent.”
One royal expert disagrees.
“Meghan’s two-page letter to lobby Congress about giving money on parental leave, is obviously another step towards trying to turn herself into a politician,” Angela Levin told the Daily Mail. “The truth is that the bill about parental leave is on its way to being confirmed, and could be hijacked by Meghan’s belief it was largely due to her.”

Experts have also called out Meghan for bringing up her parents’ financial struggles and relying on $4.99 salads from Sizzler because it’s widely known she attended private school from early on.
“Using the example of the $5 salad bar and how she had to struggle in the past is an attempt to link with the way so many families struggle to pay their bills,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said to the Mail.
“Aspiring politicians use these sorts of examples and it remains to be seen … whether the audience she seeks are impressed by her account of how she had to struggle,” he continued.
In her letter, Meghan did acknowledge the politics of it all.
“I know how politically charged things can – and have – become. But this isn’t about right or left, it’s about right or wrong,” she said. “This is about putting families above politics.”
She signed off “on behalf of my family, Archie and Lili and Harry, I thank you for considering this letter, and on behalf of all families, I ask you to ensure this consequential moment is not lost.”
