Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle taking off to the Great White North?

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the pair is moving from England and will split their time between there and North America.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.

“We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”

For months there have been whispers that the pair would exit the U.K. as Markle struggled to adapt to life as a royal.

Canada has always reportedly been the couple’s preferred destination.

According to The U.K. Sun, pals revealed that the pair want to spend the next few months working out of Canada and planning their charitable endeavours.

The couple has never made a secret of their fondness for Canada with Markle starring in Toronto-filmed Suits for years.

Over Christmas, they spent six weeks testing the waters at an $18.2 million Vancouver Island mansion called Mille Fleurs and liked it. It was their first holiday with baby Archie.

Pals on this side of the pond are reportedly highly supportive of the move.

But in the UK, the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family were stunned by the news.

According to the BBC, no royals were consulted before the couple made the announcement and the Queen is reportedly “disappointed”.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said, “discussions … are at an early stage”.

The missive cryptically added the situation is “complicated” and “will take time to work through”.

Sources told the Daily Mail that Harry and Meghan would begin discussing the move with senior royals, including the Queen and Prince Charles.

As the future became more focused on Charles and William, the couple are taking the hint and stepping aside

“They are back to work. They have nothing to hide and have got so much good work to do,” one friend told The Sun.

“But it has been made very clear by the institution that the Sussexes are not central to the future plan.

“Just look at the picture released last week of the Queen with the Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge and George.”
