The news outlet reported that Seneng found a bat lying in her classroom at Bryant Middle School in Dos Palos, Calif., in mid-October. The teacher reportedly tried to scoop up the animal and take it outside when it woke up, flew around and bit Seneng before flying off.

The woman fell ill a month after being bitten. Seneng’s daughter took her to hospital where she was placed into a coma.

She died on Nov. 22.

A GoFundMe was set up to help with funeral costs. As of Friday, it has raised $2,564.
