A bullfighter was fatally gored by a bull in front of horrified onlookers after he taunted an animal at a controversial festival in Colombia.
The victim, Yovanis Marquez, 35, was among the crowd which participated in the “corraleja,” or bullfighting festival, in Fundacion, a small town in the northern region of Magdalena.
Disturbing video posted to social media shows a shirtless Marquez charging at the beast before trying to leap over it.
However, the man miscalculated the jump and instead is seen getting struck by one of the bull’s horns and is tossed in the air by the animal.
Marquez initially appeared fine but dazed, even standing up on his own and running away as bystanders tried to help him.
“He stood up as if he was fine, but the blood was flowing. It was only a few seconds before he fell to the ground,” one eyewitness told El Tiempo.
Marquez was rushed to hospital but he arrived without vital signs and was declared dead, according to the outlet.

Marquez was known for his speed and skill in dealing with bulls, and he was widely known on the bullfighting circuit for his daring manoeuvres and success at dodging charges, the outlet reported.
Colombian animal rights group Plataforma ALTO, shared video of the attack on social media.
“The man passed away yesterday after being gored by an injured bull, in an act of self-defense, during the ‘festivities’ of the municipality.”
The group noted: “Last year, in Colombia, the ‘No más Olé’ law, authored by Sen. Esmeralda Hernández, was passed, banning bullfights throughout the country.”
They added: “It is time to also say: NO MORE CORRALEJAS! Yes to prohibition, no to ‘regulations.’”
The law banning bullfighting was passed by Colombia’s parliament in 2024 but won’t come into effect until 2027.
